The Innovation Center at CERN in Geneva recently published an article in the prestigious IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation, authored by Enrico Costanzo, Group Innovation Manager, and Francesca Turetta, R&I Specialist at the R&I Department of Cereal Docks. The article showcases two case studies that illustrate the application of the Progressia method, an innovative methodology developed by the R&I Department to validate both process and product innovation projects.

The two projects under review, Sistema Green+ and Heliapro, highlight the Group’s integrated approach throughout the supply chain, from the field to the final product. Sistema Green+ is a project focused on modernizing the agricultural supply chain, with a particular emphasis on digitalization, efficiency, and sustainability. Heliapro, on the other hand, involves the development of a new plant-based food ingredient, featuring unique functional and nutritional properties beneficial to the food industry.

Both projects were piloted using the Progressia method, which was internally developed by the R&I Department at Cereal Docks. Progressia combines the Technical Readiness Level (TRL) scale—originally developed by NASA to measure technological maturity—with a market needs assessment. This approach enables mapping both the technological progress of a project and its ability to meet market demands, ensuring alignment between technological innovation and operational requirements.

The Progressia method has proven particularly effective in facilitating the transition of projects from the experimental phase to industrial application, addressing the need to reduce uncertainty in a competitive sector like agri-food.

The publication of this scientific article marks a significant achievement for Cereal Docks’ R&I Department, highlighting the value of their work in the field of innovation. This milestone reaffirms the Group’s commitment to advancing a structured innovation process, from technical and market validation to experimentation, all the way to large-scale industrial application.

Featuring in IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation strengthens the Group’s international standing, underscoring the pivotal role of innovation in a sustainable growth context.
